Joseph Baer

December 9, 2018

A brave and patriotic man, the love of my life, passed away on Sunday December 9, 2018 in Lakewood Ranch, FL, with his son, Gregory, at his bedside. He adored his wife, Sybil Glanz Baer, was very proud of his children, daughter, Pennisue Baer Bolandrina (Danny) of Grafton MA, sons, Gregory (Judi) of Georgia, Bradley (Axiadna) of Panama, Richard (Barbara), and granddaughter Danielle of FL.  He also leaves his step-grandsons, Ryan and Justin Adams of Rhode Island.  He was lovingly cared for by his adoring wife and children during his illness.

Joe was born in Boston, MA, October 18, 1929 to Charles and Teresa Baer, deceased, and sister, Evelyn Deutschmann, deceased. He graduated from Mechanics Arts in Boston in 1946 and attended Northeastern University for Mechanical Engineering. A longtime resident of Holliston MA, where he loved living in a community where “everyone knows your name.”

He was an avid hockey fan of the Boston Bruins and was one of the founders of Holliston Youth Hockey League. He formerly owned Sports City in Holliston, MA.

A very patriotic man, he served honorably in the U.S Navy aboard the USS Tolovana during the Korean Conflict.

He began his career as a welder for the former Peters & Company, Quincy, MA and retired as consultant for the food service industry.   Joe was a 70 year member of Sheet Metal Union Local #17, a lifetime member of the DAV, former commander of the Medway chapter of the DAV, a lifetime member of the VFW, and was a Mason, the Uxbridge chapter.

A long time lung cancer survivor, Joe volunteered at the Dana-Farber Cancer Center in Milford, MA.

Rest in peace, Joe, the struggle is over. Your twinkling blue eyes, wonderful singing voice and your telling of a good story will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held on Friday December 14, 2018 at 11 a.m. Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton, MA. followed by burial at Sharon Memorial Park.

Donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, or Tidewell Hospice in Bradenton, Florida
