Anna Lillian Hartka, 100, of Sarasota, passed away peacefully July 5, 2018.
Anna was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was married to Wm. A Hartka. She was supportive and assisted her husband in managing the Mira Mar Hotel, on Palm Avenue, for nearly 30 years. Anna was also known as "The Bird Lady of Sarasota", as she did bird rescue and rehabilitation. Later, at age 92, she founded the Sarasota Chapter of Compeer, which is an organization that matches trained volunteers with people recovering from mental illness. The organization works with both adults and children. She was a life member of Hadassah, wrote beautiful poetry, and enjoyed drawing and sculpting.
